Ipswich – 4/3/23 – Unlimited Bangers World Series Round 2 – Meeting Report

The second round of the Banger World Series took place at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich on Saturday 4th March, with just over 100 cars in attendance.

Stunning Jaguar XJ Series II for 40 Lester Freestone

40 Lester Freestone had the star car with a stunning Jaguar Series 2 XJ, although their was plenty of material in typical World Series fashion. Predators pairing 178 Kieran Bowman and 595 Drew Burdett brought the American muscle, with Slim piloting a Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limo and Drewboy a Chrysler New York. Their was a pair of stunning Jaguar XJ Series III’s for 211 Jamie Pole and 611 Joe Geeves. 99 David Spooner continued his spree of limousines, with a Mk2 Granada variant. 360 Jack Reynolds got tongues wagging – is it a Mk1 Granada Estate, is it a Mk2 Granada Estate; it was in fact a hybrid of both. 747 Bradley Dee turned heads with his RWD converted Mk4 Ford Mondeo Estate, making use of the new rule change. Their were several that made top effort on the paint front including 58 Joe Brown, 252 Steve and 262 Rob Bugler and 341 Andrew Jones.

Heat 1 saw 516 Gouldy and 542 Oliver off of the front row, and it was Gouldy that shot into the early lead. 252 Boogie was spun along the home straight, whilst 639 Tye Pirate removed 183 Banton on the scoreboard bend. 340 Wes spun 526 Jack D on the back straight, before suffering the same feat at the hands of 67 Beasley along the home straight. 611 Geeves was the next to have a spin. 444 Chaz spun 230 Flatty. 252 Boogie delivered a rear wheel shot to 230 Flatty, which set him up for the former to deliver a solid jacking a lap later. 516 Carl Gould raced to the win.

252 Boogie stuck it to 230 Flatty in Heat 1

555 Dirty Harry got off to a slow start for Heat 2, which saw a scrambled start. 440 Lemon spun early doors, as 246 Sparks spun 58 Brown. 595 Drew Boy, 553 Webby and others crashed out along the home straight. 360 Jackstar spun 178 Slim into 146 Wiggy. 246 Sparks tangled with 747 Didee, with 595 Drew Boy and 101 Charmer also having an off, which also saw World Champion 388 Little Stevo go off the track. 595 Drew Boy went on oppo, connecting with 455 Finney. Drew Boy then attacked 360 Jackstar on oppo. 820 Maggot dumped 617 Overy fence-wards. 595 Drew Boy and 617 Overy then tangled running into 360 Jackstar. 217 Madgwick homed in on 595 Drew Boy. The reds then coming out for 360 Jackstar, as 178 Slim looked to set about 356 HJO on oppo. 130 Gladden lead them away from the restart. 355 Dribbler had a pop at 131 McCarthy. 178 Slim went on oppo, connecting with 99 Bam which tore the latter’s Mk2 Granada Limo. Bam responded with a head on and tbone to Slim from the shale. 356 HJO spun 682 Korbs, as 130 Joe Gladden took the victory this time.

41 Looney Lee failed to make the start of Heat 3, pulling onto the shale before the green flag dropped. 941 Matthews got it all wrong into turn 3, hitting the inner curb which saw him collide with 399 Atkin, leading to the latter fencing the Mk1 Granada Coupe. 585 Holdsworth spun 331 Boxer Jack, but the latter swiftly rejoined the fray. 16 Fagass set about 528 Jethro. This spun the Irish Bears man, allowing 211 Poley to deliver a savage head on. The red flags immediately coming out on track. The restart saw 535 Cox run into Fagass’ lame car, as 478 Weasel Jnr spun 224 Canham. 623 Tricky had a nibble at 266 Odd Job as the latter looked to retire to the infield. 341 Jonesey went on oppo looking to connect with 103 Jacko. Jonesey then successfully caught 123 Kezza on oppo, before clobbering 284 Heady with a hit on oppo. 506 Mitchell was dumped into 211 Poley’s lame Jag, before 585 Holdsworth was the next of Jonesey’s victims. 99 Shaydy jacked 341 Jonesey, with 623 Tricky going in on the former. 456 Nathan Roberts continuing his strong recent form taking the win.

211 Poley delivered this huge head on to 16 Fagass in Heat 3

The Consolation saw 494 Harris suffer an early spin. 224 Canham put the bumper in on 747 Didee, which sent the RWD Mondeo into a spin. 58 Brown spun 340 Wes. 349 Noddy blasted 340 Wes. 122 Cooper Jnr ran 266 Odd Job head on into the spun 164 Sedgwick. 357 Two-Pump spun 224 Canham, who was collected by 623 Tricky. 478 Weasel Jnr spun 741 Daniels. 103 Jacko spun 357 Two-Pump. 494 Harris and 459 Platts suffered spins on turn 2. 58 Brown spun and was done head on by 266 Odd Job. 440 Lemon followed in 131 McCarthy. This claimed 4 Wildy and 77 Aario. 440 Big Mac weighed in on 77 Aario, before 444 Chaz steamed in for a head on to 440 Lemon. 455 Finney set about 526 Jack D, which saw a wheel fall off the latter’s Scorpio. This brought the race to a halt, but not before 349 Noddy tboned 526 Jack D. 459 Platts spun 180 McConachie as the race resumed, with 137 Chaplin driving through the Scotsman. 217 Madgwick tangled with 542 Oliver and duly copped one in turn from 349 Noddy. 77 Aario homed in for a rear wheel hit to 217 Madgwick. 278 Bean and 137 Chaplin crashed out on the home straight. 455 Finney got leant into 349 Noddy, and had 542 Oliver drive through him in turn. The red flags then coming out on track once again. 348 Mushy lead them away from the restart. 41 Looney Lee spun 224 Canham and was spun in turn by 478 Weasel Jnr. 278 Bean collected 340 Wes’ car and was jacked by 747 Didee. 440 Big Mac spun 478 Weasel Jnr, before 623 Tricky followed 77 Aario in. The reds coming out straight away, with 348 Sonny Sherwood having already taking the win.

The Wildcard Final saw 130 Gladden and 456 Roberts draw the front of the grid on the joker cards, whilst 516 Gouldy pulled the short straw drawing the back. 634 Marty and 327 Little Legs tangled, before several crashed out along the home straight. 733 Stroudey followed in 252 Boogie. 122 Cooper Jnr jacked 252 Boogie, and was done in turn by 333 Chaz. 130 Gladden spun 623 Tricky. 262 Roona then delivered a Wreckfest-style hit to 341 Jonesey, bouncing him off the turn 3 plating. 262 Roona then drove through 341 Jonesey, as 243 Bodja and 459 Platts had an off on turn 2. 262 Roona homed in for a head on to 341 Jonesey. 355 Dribbler weighed in on 262 Roona. 130 Gladden’s charge was scuppered as he was dumped onto the shale along the back straight by 56 Clarke. 355 Dribbler was turned fence-wards along the back straight, and copped a savage rear wheel shot from 111 Cotton Eye when looking to rejoin. 133 Terz spun 372 Matthews aside. 262 Roona looked to set about 331 Boxer Jack on oppo, the latter getting dumped fence-wards instead by 67 Beasley. Roona then blocked Boxer from being able to rejoin swiftly. 327 Little Legs spun 56 Clarke into 623 Tricky. Little Legs then spun 670 The Man Jnr a lap later to conclude the action. 456 Nathan Roberts raced to his second win of the evening, and his second Wildcard Final win of the campaign meaning the spot gets carried over to another round – 699 Stacey Holdsworth and 639 Tye Williams completing the podium spots.

262 Roona set about 341 Jonesey in the Final

The Showdown race saw 528 Jethro and 726 Sambo suffer early spins. 130 Gladden dumped 456 Roberts out. 111 Cotton Eye spun 262 Roona, before 211 Poley leathered 180 McConachie. A tangle on the exit of turn 4 saw 165 the Chaz, 617 Overy, 639 Tye Pirate and 741 Daniels crash out. 217 Madgwick jacked 741 Daniels. The reds then came out on track. The restart saw 456 Roberts punt 130 Gladden into the armco on the turnstile bend. 725 Sibbs spun 130 Gladden aside. 388 Little Stevo spun 733 Stroudey. 211 Poley launched 307 Pretty Boy into the barrier. 84 Peach went round under pressure from 506 Mitchell. 717 Jack Tuffen took the win.

Following the culmination of round 2, 456 Nathan Roberts boasts a strong lead in the World Qualifying Points over 820 Martyn Perkins and 577 Alfie Lee. 211 Jamie Pole heads the Entertainers League from 178 Kieran Bowman and 99 David Spooner. The Unlimited Bangers focus their attention to a WQ and Pot of Gold round at Eastbourne at the end of the month, before round three of the World Series rolls in to Northampton on 9th April.
