Back to Basics – 29/12/2019 – Yarmouth

The season finale for the Back to Basics at Yarmouth Stadium took place on Sunday 29th December and raised a fantastic 91 cars in action. There was some top effort on the paint effort with 9 Titch Mancini, 73 Luke Spall, 297 David Blackmore, 748 George Matthews, 757 Michael Sipka and 994 Jay Hooley taking paint awards.

Heat 1 started with 23 cars. 260 Keefy was the first to show as he spun 502 Selfy. 757 Shortie attacked 862 Reece. 636 Skoyles spun 448 Grummet for the lead early on. 888 spun 211 Steptoe. 709 Block posted 200 Baldy hard. 666 Demon set about 288 Fordy. 448 Grummet attacked 666 Demon. 114 Fisher spun 448 Grummet. 445 Leonard spun 12 Kelly-Louise to end the action as 636 Louis Skoyles raced to the first win of the afternoon.

Heat 2 commenced with 385 Thurlow spinning 14 Bazza. 160 Firman and 297 Blackmore crashed out down the home straight. 385 Thurlow spun 717 Wheeler. 717 Booty set about 385 Thurlow. A massive crash occurred along the home straight seeing 160 Firman, 141 Snakey and one other come together seeing 160 Firman and 141 Snakey bounce off posts, the former then taking a rear wheel shot from 138 Batchelor bringing the reds out as two wheels fell off 160 Firman’s Picasso. The restart saw 242 Watling spin 760 Finch. 111 Gibbs buried 585 Tytey into 138 Batchelor’s parked car. The leading 143 Copland spun 760 Finch. 717 Wheeler spun 385 Thurlow as 143 Shaun Copland raced to the win ahead of Norfolk Mafia teammates 111 Gibbs and 242 Watling in a top 3 that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the rookies 15 years ago.

725 Youngs hung 810 Smith off a post in a first bend push to set things rolling in Heat 3. 647 Wingnut attacked 713 Bray. 31 Manny spun 217 Bailey. 748 Ginge turned 179 Fat Pants fence-wards. 179 Fat Pants recovered to set about 140 Scottie. 425 Clarke attacked 411 Warner. 46 Grumpy spun 140 Scottie. The leading 994 Jay Ho turned 713 Bray left getting himself disqualified. 19 Smiley Joe turned 11 Hodgkinson fence-wards. 647 Wingnut attacked 141 Connor on route to taking the win.

Heat 4 began with 250 Billy P and 239 Evil Eric tangling early on. 9 Titch spun 250 Billy P. 369 Allard set about 9 Titch but got caught on the latter leading to 73 Chunk going in on 369 Allard. 9 Titch went for a revenge attack on 369 Allard, eventually spinning her. 757 Shortie attacked 294 Deano which sent 818 Brown fence-wards. 239 Evil Eric moved in to spinning both 757 Shortie and 294 Deano off in one go. 294 Deano buried 969 Humphries hard, but was immediately spun aside by 239 Evil Eric. 349 Michael Allard racing to the win.

Heat 5 was the first of the Figure of 8 races. 636 Skoyles took out 526 Ryan C early on before there was a big push into the Caister bend. 447 Nail ran 14 Bazza through 13 Burcham. 111 Gibbs and 862 Reece crashed out on the entrance of the pits bend. 636 Skoyles attacked 288 Fordy. 666 Demon launched over the infield concrete as he avoided a crash over the 8. 526 Ryan C crashed into the back of 111 Gibbs. 114 Fisher set about 260 Keefy. 211 Steptoe attacked 288 Fordy and they crashed into the fence together. 288 Fordy then getting revenge as he caught 211 Steptoe over the crossing. 9 Titch done 260 Keefy head on over the 8, and the former was caught in turn by 294 Deano.
720 Booty ran 114 Fisher head on into 9 Titch. 636 Skoyles delivered a massive shot on 720 Booty over the 8 as 6 Mark Holdsworth raced to the win.

Another Figure of 8 race marked Heat 6. 12 Kelly set about 810 Smith. 621 Gruff jacked 810 Smith. 39 Pusher Paul spun 757 Shortie, the latter then taking a rear wheel shot from 315 Beevor. The leading 242 Watling connected with 621 Gruff over the cross over. 141 Snakey accidentally caught 146 Dutch in the drivers door as they crossed paths over the 8, the reds immediately coming out for 146 Dutch but not before 12 Kelly rolled on the pits bend. The restart saw an Allard top 2 with 369 Jane heading brother 349 Michael. The action was quiet for several laps before 349 Allard put away 297 Blackmore. 33 Magic and 349 Allard enjoyed a major scrap for the lead before the latter eventually broke away. 173 Kenny G attacked 713 Bray. 17 Chiefy went in on the back of 173 Kenny G. 349 Allard took his second win of the evening.

The Finals were split into two. 173 Kenny G buried 250 Billy P into the tyres to set the action rolling. 777 Pezza administered a head on to 250 Billy P. 217 Burrows attacked 377 Ling, who was then jacked in turn by 179 Fat Pants. 6 Holdsworth took out 288 Fordy. 362 Baker and 260 Keefy came together at the end of the home straight. 53 Dreamer jacked 647 Wingnut. 448 Grummet jacked 362 Baker flat out at the end of the home straight. It was a straight thumbs down from 362 Baker which brought the reds out – Baker being winded but otherwise ok. The race resumed with 502 Selfy attacking 50 Barty Jnr. 725 Youngs went in on 260 Keefy. 888 Staff blasted the leading 439 Sutty putting him under pressure. 179 Fat Pants attacked 336 Fathead. 356 Sambo buried 13 Burcham into the abandoned 377 Ling. 179 Fat Pants ran 345 Chunk through 138 Batchelor. 502 Selfy jacked 336 Fathead. 526 Ryan C weighed in on 502 Selfy. 636 Skoyles went in on 526 Ryan C before setting a light bringing another halt to procedures. Only 2 laps resumed on the restart and saw 439 Daniel Sutton hold on to his win ahead of 647 Nicky Bentley and 173 Kenton Walker bested 6 Mark Holdsworth to take third.

The second final began with 411 Warner attacking 33 Magic and eventually spinning him. 748 Ginge spun 294 Deano left and ended up running flat out into wife 749 Jazzman. 385 Thurlow set about 818 Brown. 111 Gibbs spun 67 Martin. 349 Allard laid into the lame 713 Bray who was working wonders to keep his Rover 45 facing the right way. 33 Magic attacked 969 Moo. 888 Staff set about 713 Bray. 242 Watling spun aside 294 Deano. 111 Gibbs picked 67 Martin up running him into the back of 349 Allard and followed the pair in. 242 Watling spun aside 73 Chunky. 67 Martin jacked 757 Shortie. 294 Deano set about 713 Bray. 810 Smith and 969 Humphries came together at the end of the straight with 513 Wishbone, the latter needing assistance so the reds were brought out. The restart saw 349 Allard back out stopping the leading 447 Nail. 349 Allard backed out once again catching 815 Castle before 447 Nail drove through 349 Allard hard in a revenge attack. 294 Deano met 349 Allard head on. Norfolk Mafia pairing 242 Watling and 143 Copland tussled for the lead with a last bend lunge seeing both get taken out allowing 815 Tom Castle to win from 239 Eric Pearson, Eric delighted with his second place which came 41 years to the day from his first ever win and 297 David Blackmore rounding off the top three. The latter couldn’t believe his luck getting third in the final on his first ever meeting.

The DD completed the day’s action. A first bend push saw 14 Bazza take out 720 Booty. 141 Connor drove through 14 Bazza. 336 Fathead ran 439 Sutty into 17 Chiefy. 179 Fat Pants set about 217 Burrows. 815 Castle buried 336 Fathead into 696 Humphries. 200 Baldy and 530 Chiddell shared a head on. 143 Copland followed in 294 Deano hard on the Caister bend bringing the red flags out. The DD resumed with 141 Connor set about 862 Reece. 173 Kenny G followed in 345 Chunk getting some large airtime. 9 Titch set about 439 Sutty. 179 Fat Pants attacked 141 Connor. 512 Wishbone Jnr set about 217 Burrows who buried himself into the side of 141 Connor. 141 Connor and 815 Castle shared a solid head on down the home straight. 385 Thurlow attacked 888 Staff. 175 Emmo and 9 Titch shared a solid head on. 385 Thurlow weighed in on 9 Titch. 512 Wishbone Jnr set about 385 Thurlow. 179 Fat Pants went head on with 17 Chiefy. 200 Baldy jacked 179 Fat Pants. 512 Wishbone Jnr took the DD honours by destroying 888 Staff down the back straight.

Overall another fantastic meeting to round off what has been a solid season for the Back to Basics at Yarmouth. The new season kicks off at the track on Sunday 16th February.
