Back to Basics – 17/04/2017 – Northampton

Heat 1 started with 246 Barnaby Curtis spinning 6 Mark Holdsworth on turn 4, as 421 Josh Mayo led. 110 Benji Spencer collected the turn 3 fence, before 595 Drew Burdett spun 19 Tom Rodgers into the same bend and ran into Spencer. 815 Tom Castle hooked out 286 Dan Phillips on the home straight as the red flags came out to check on 110 Spencer. 221 Amelia Ward led the restart from 426 Austin Burns and 421 Mayo, as 200 Richard Cornall fenced 35 Luke Pope on turn 3 bringing out the red flags again. 221 Ward continued to lead for the next restart as 771 Ricki Roberts spun 200 Cornall into the home straight fence. The backmarking 352 Ben Mynott delayed 221 Ward, but she remained in the lead as 595 Burdett fenced 19 Rodgers on turn 4. 815 Castle spun Rodgers down the home straight as 221 Ward took the flag.

771 Roberts set the pace in heat 2, as 595 Burdett steamed 711 Ryan Leech up the back straight and 31 Bradley McCarthy spun 815 Castle into the back straight fence. McCarthy went on to spin 352 Mynott on turn 1, with 19 Rodgers running into Mynott. 6 Holdsworth took out 286 Phillips on turn 1 before overhauling 771 Roberts on the penultimate lap to take the win, while 286 Phillips fenced 221 Ward on turn 3.

426 Burns led the Final as 711 Leech hooked out 31 McCarthy on turn 2. 352 Mynott spun 421 Mayo onto the infield, Mynott’s rear wheel then half breaking off to fold underneath his car, causing him to spin into turn 1. 595 Burdett collected Mynott, with 815 Castle running into Burdett, Castle ramming Burdett again on his next lap. 19 Rodgers overhauled 426 Burns for the lead, as 352 Mynott managed to coax his car round the track to hit both 595 Burdett and 815 Castle on turn 1, Mynott then half spinning 473 Mark Mulford into turn 3. 19 Rodgers fenced 473 Mulford, Rodgers then slowing on the last lap, and 426 Burns caught him into the last bend, spinning and T-boning him to go on for the win.

Just 8 returned for the DD, with 246 Curtis reversing into 473 Mulford from the start, 352 Mynott firing into Mulford to sandwich him. 246 Curtis then blitzed 36 Mick Pope on turn 3, before he had 352 Mynott weigh into him. 286 Phillips steamed 31 McCarthy round turns 3 and 4, before 246 Curtis spectacularly shed his rear axle into turn 1. 6 Holdsworth blitzed 31 McCarthy down the back straight, as 711 Leech spun 286 Phillips on turn 2. Phillips was then blitzed on the back straight by 6 Holdsworth, as 711 Leech collected 31 McCarthy on turn 2. Holdsworth spun Phillips on turn 2, before hitting 31 McCarthy on the back straight. 711 Leech weighed into Holdsworth, before hitting 286 Phillips on opposite to take the win.
