Mildenhall – 15/04/22 – 1600 Bangers Suffolk Open Team Championship – Meeting Report

The annual Good Friday ‘Suffolk Open Teams’ fixture for the 1600 National Bangers returned to Mildenhall Stadium on 15th April 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The fixture seeing no Mk5 Vauxhall Astras or Ford Focus being allowed. One Shot pairing 419 Laura Quadling and 420 Matthew Jode opting for Mk3 Astras, and 410 Jake Calvert’s Nissan Sunny B13 Wagon being the highlight of the material. There were several drivers that made the effort on the paint front also.

Heat 2 commenced with 188 Victor spinning 732 Big Mac. 292 Harold caught teammate 732 Big Mac with a front wheel shot on his way past. The back straight saw a sort out which claimed several drivers. 730 Deano was the first to land a blow in the Motley Krew v Dover Boys battle which always seems to take place as this event, running 394 Powell into 311 Helm Jnr. 51 Licquorice leathered 394 Powell with a huge shot over the front wheel ending the Motley Krew man’s day. 227 Taylor had a nibble at 51 Licquorice, before the reds came out to check on 394 Powell who exited all ok. The restart saw 85 Thurlow remove 60 Crock, and 90 Spud spun 227 Taylor. 27 Turbo turned 245 Lown left at the end of the back straight. 292 Harold collected 245 Lown. 60 Crock spun 712 Hudson, as 30 Bubba removed 817 Stig. 90 Spud put away 422 Buckley. 85 Thurlow delivered a huge jacking to 422 Buckley bringing another stoppage. 400 Kingsnorth led from the restart, but that was short lived, as 730 Deano leant him into the parked 90 Spud car in a very tactical move. 30 Bubba now inherited the lead, with 730 Deano slotting into second. 400 Kingsnorth recovered to still be sat in third. 176 Collings put away 523 Ernie. 30 Brandon Mayes won.

Heat 3 begun with 12 Cobbett taking a pop at 545 Huffy with 277 Sideshow also latching on. 455 Micky spun 342 Freestone, who then copped a front wheel shot from 10 Wicko. 232 Pope caught 342 Freestone in the door, as 57 Garrod removed 315 Webby. 12 Troy spun 277 Sideshow, as 536 Barwell had a pop at 910 Rookard. 276 Rowell weighed in on 57 Garrod. 12 Troy spun 512 Rowe, before 9 Cox followed in 545 Huffy. 536 Barwell got in terribly wrong and delivered a horrific dooring to 9 Cox, and was duly jacked by 910 Rookard. 218 Sandy then delivered a hit on 910 Rookard which was also suspiciously close to the drivers’ door. 9 Cox then delivered a head on to 305 Cornish as meanwhile, 910 Jack Rookard was declared the winner.

141 Snakey rolled and landed on all fours to start Heat 4 off. 23 Sonny P spun 113 Waller, who got knocked about by the pack. 410 Calvert buried 990 Sealy and 448 Critt. 550 Fearless and 743 Rogers crashed out at the end of the back straight. 359 Dannyboy removed 515 Ewin. 999 Sealey spun 830 Sharpey Jnr, as 998 Sealy put away 47 Doris. 990 Sealy had a pop at 50 Gamble. 23 Sonny P weighed in on 990 Sealy. 448 Critt leathered 998 Sealy, but hit the armco himself at rapid speed seeing the red flags come out for Critt. The restart saw 248 Blything set about 999 Sealy. 515 Ewin went in on 248 Blything, with the former then getting spun aside by 141 Snakey. 998 Sealy ran 248 Blything and 999 Sealy through 515 Ewin. 23 Sonny P attacked 998 Sealy. 299 Callaghan jacked 23 Sonny P. 550 Fearless set about 299 Callaghan. 248 Blything spun 600 Conroy. 299 Callaghan caught 551 Jacko Jnr with a nasty DSU hit before taking a hit himself from 550 Fearless. Heat 5 saw 390 Dazza spin 420 Maff fence-wards before getting followed in himself by 307 Pretty Boy. 337 Gielles set about 135 Old Mann, before opting to weigh in on 307 Pretty Boy instead. 53 Dreamer went in on 337 Gielles and was blasted by 246 Burty Jnr. 122 Cooper Jnr jacked 246 Burty Jnr. 279 Braderz attacked 566 Zippy Jnr. 246 Burty Jnr then got abused by TPT, with 726 Bye delivering a savage tbone before 733 Stroud went in over the passenger A pillar. 530 Chiddle went in on 726 Bye before getting jacked by 725 Sibbs. 279 Braderz weighed in on Sibbs. 733 Stroud jacked 279 Braderz. 307 Pretty Boy homed in on 337 Gielles. 725 Sibbs and 732 Stroud then laid into 307 Pretty Boy. 191 Corey jacked 732 Stroud and was immediately done by 725 Sibbs. 566 Tony Pallett secured the win.

188 Victor took out 132 Bobbles at the start of Heat 6. 60 Crock spun 51 Licquorice. 730 Deano ran in 311 Helm Jnr and copped a shot over the rear wheel in turn by 538 Rodders. 30 Bubba attacked 122 Boland. 245 Lown delivered a front wheel shot to 122 Boland. 136 Stumpy laid into 245 Lown. 292 Harold jacked 122 Boland. 400 Kingsnorth ran 712 Hudson into 122 Boland. 27 Turbo spun 538 Rodders, before 176 Collings spun 85 Thurlow. 188 Victor delivered a head on to 122 Boland, before the reds came out for the Motley Krew driver. The restart saw 27 Turbo spin 51 Licquorice, who recovered only to get done again by 292 Harold. 523 Ernie followed in 732 Big Mac, which created some huge airtime for both ending in an auto-sculpture, bringing the reds out once again. 27 Turbo again dealt the first blow once again off the restart, taking out 85 Thurlow, with 400 Kingsnorth dumping out 27 Turbo immediately in response. 292  Harold spun 51 Licquorice fence-wards, as 337 Ashley Garrod took the victory.

Heat 7 begun with 800 Halls attacking 545 Huffy, as 10 Wicko got turned fence-wards. 165 The Chaz weighed in on 800 Halls. 342 Freestone homed in on 165 The Chaz, and was tboned by 218 Sandy. 910 Rookard weighed in on 218 Sandy, and was immediately done in turn by a solid hit from 455 Micky. 7 Bitson delivered a hit to the nose of 455 Micky. 277 Sideshow delivered a rear wheel shot to 455 Micky. Crunchers & TSYL then squared off, with 525 Starmer blasting 165 The Chaz on oppo. 342 Freestone weighed in on 165 The Chaz. 277 Sideshow attacked 525 Starmer, the latter then bombing it down the home straight on oppo to deliver a solid tbone to 165 the Chaz. 608 Lenny Murkin was the winner this time.

Heat 8 saw TMT and The Smurfs cross paths once again as 248 Blything followed in 999 Sealy. 990 Sealy weighed in on 248 Blything. 113 Waller and 141 G-Man tangled at the end of the back straight. 830 Sharpey Jnr buried 600 Conroy. 990 Sealy delivered a rear wheel shot to 141 G-Man. 248 Blything homed in on 990 Sealy. 50 Gamble delivered a head on to the on oppo 743 Rogers. 998 Sealy weighed in for a head on to 248 Blything. 828 Sharpey delivered a solid tbone to 998 Sealy. 50 Gamble delivered a head on to 990 Sealy. 727 Benson buried 23 Sonny P into 50 Gamble. 990 Sealy jacked 23 Sonny P. 990 Sealy then shared a solid head on with 448 Critt. 727 Wayne Benson taking the win, with only 5 cars going the distance.

The first Alcomers saw non-qualifiers back out to allow repair time for the Final. There were a few early casualties but nothing serious until 340 Wes followed in 319 Durkje and 600 Conroy, rolling on impact. The restart saw 525 Starmer get dumped into the tyres at the end of the back straight, before 725 Sibbs buried 530 Chiddle and 337 Gielles, leaving them bridged on one another. 315 Webby spun 292 Harold, who then came under fire from 725 Sibbs. 132 Robert James won and was followed in by 733 Stroud to conclude the action.

The Final commenced with 279 Braderz putting away 419 Mossop under pressure from 707 Lilley. 420 Maff had a pop at 266 Brows. Team Mates hopes of securing the title slipped away as 2/3 of the team crashed out with 231 Ally at the end of the home straight. 420 Maff weighed in on 279 Braderz and was jacked in turn by 523 Ernie. 191 Corey came against the flow to do 420 Maff over the front wheel. 191 Corey continued to ram 420 Maff several times, as 188 Victor took out 352 Mynott. 47 Butts delivered a rear wheel shot on 352 Mynott. 608 Lenny Boy and 730 Deano had an off on turn 1. 191 Corey jacked 420 Maff. 523 Ernie, who had been on impressive form all meeting, followed in 707 Lilley. 276 Rowell leathered 36 Lewis. 12 Troy attacked 188 Victor, as 30 Brandon Mayes took his second win of the afternoon, which was enough to secure Dover Boys the title. Twisted Metal pairing 37 David Lewis and 322 Tom Fox coming second and third.

Alcomers 2 was one of the quieter races of the afternoon and started with a few spin outs and minor incidents until 122 Cooper Jnr rattled 608 Lenny Boy around the pits bend plating. 550 Fearless ploughed into 608 Lenny Boy before the action slowed down once again. 725 Simon Bye raced to the win.

The final Alcomers was action all over from the drop of the green flag. 326 Ratty set about 231 Ally. 515 Ewin went in on 326 Ratty, as 113 Waller put away 165 the Chaz. 550 Fearless ran 276 Rowell into 165 the Chaz. 525 Starmer put away 515 Ewin and 337 Garrod. 311 Golden Boy went in on 515 Ewin. 178 Slim jacked 311 Golden Boy, before having 340 Wes followed in to him by 538 Rodders. 113 Waller jacked 340 Wes and was immediately done in turn by 315 Webby. 226 Atkinson delivered a head on to 305 Cornish. 725 Sibbs leathered 113 Waller. 90 Spud jacked 725 Sibbs, and was done himself courtesy of a revenge shot from 733 Stroud. 122 Cooper Jnr blitzed 90 Spud. 536 Barwell attacked 342 Freestone on oppo. 356 Sambo leant 218 Sandy into 50 Gamble. 536 Barwell caught 356 Sambo head on bouncing him off the armco. 266 Brows drove through 218 Sandy.  246 Burty Jnr jacked 122 Cooper Jnr before the red flags came out for 90 Spud, who exited all ok, albeit a bit dazed. The restart saw 226 Atkinson collect a parked car and duly be blasted by 699 Nelson. 277 Sideshow jacked 699 Nelson. 512 Rowe dumped 525 Starmer into 277 Sideshow. 326 Ratty went in on 512 Rowe, before 277 Sideshow delivered an oppo attack on 51 Licquorice. 226 Atkinson delivered a head on to 455 Micky, and then pursued to administer a front whee shot to 455 also. 831 Fuller weighed in on 226 Atkinson. 277 Sideshow ran 51 Licquorice through 831 Fuller. 550 Fearless jacked 277 Sideshow, and was done in turn by 248 Blything. 712 Hudson created a gap through the pile up by blasting 699 Nelson, as 326 Ratty jacked 455 Micky. 817 Stig ran 512 Rowe into 326 Ratty. 733 Stroud blocked off the gap that had opened up by doing 525 Starmer head on. 7 Bitson blasted 246 Burty Jnr on oppo running him into the pile up. 246 Burty Jnr responded with a hit on the nose of 7 Bitson. 525 Starmer flew into the pile up on oppo as the race more resembled a DD at this stage. 448 Critt delivered a front wheel shot to 733 Stroud and 326 Ratty did the same to 455 Micky. 288 Fatboy drove through 817 Stig, as 525 Starmer tboned 246 Burty Jnr on oppo. 525 Starmer laid into 23 Sonny P before taking a shot from 550 Fearless. 248 Blything laid into 550 Fearless, before the pair shared a head on. 51 Licquorice and 448 Critt set about 512 Armstrong. 550 Fearless drove through 448 Critt. 817 Stig homed in on 448 Critt, and continued his momentum to drive through 248 Blything. 512 Armstrong leathered 448 Critt and ran him into the pile up. 550 Fearless jacked 512 Armstrong, before 817 Stig weighed in on the former to conclude the action. 51 James Licquorice taking the win on laps completed.

A fantastic session, reminding us how good team meetings can still be! It was refreshing to be able to spend Good Friday back at Mildenhall once again, and we look forward to returning this year.
