Back to Basics – 04/11/2018 – Yarmouth

An impressive 94 Back To Basics gathered at Yarmouth Stadium for their annual Gala Night meeting on Sunday 4th November. Several drivers opted for smart paint jobs, and thank you to the 29 drivers that had Caged on their cars! The format was made so that it was 1/3 cars for the first three heats, followed by two 1/2 cars races and then all in from there.

Heat 1 was for the more ‘Novice’ drivers and commenced with 377 Ling spinning 572 Orford. 333 Scoles spun the leading 934 Sampson, as cars went in all directions at the end of the home straight. The lively 333 Scoles attacked 377 Ling before removing 777 Hillman from the action. 720 Booty attacked 765 Sharman and continued his onslaught by spinning 333 Scoles. 715 Evans spun 765 Sharman who recovered to attack 748 Matthews. The race quietened down in the final as 31 Sam Steward crossed the line to take the win.

Heat 2 was for the more ‘intermediate’ drivers. 783 and 777 Firman were early casualties as they came together under the starters rostrum. The race was quiet until the 5 lap board was shown when 379 Iggle spun 13 Burcham aside. 230 Tweedy set about 839 Irons. 647 Wingnut spun 499 Emms and ended up posting himself, with the leading 512 Ray jacking 647 Wingnut. This allowed 230 Tweedy to move into the lead where he managed to hold on for the win.

Heat 3 raised 34 cars and was for the experienced drivers. 9 Titch was the first to show as he buried 995 Emmerson. 367 Beevor spun 392 Smith aside, whilst 39 Pusher Paul treated 385 Thurlow to much of the same. 474 Tweety buried 9 Titch. 6 Ling attacked 175 Emmo, eventually spinning the latter who was quick to respond with a revenge reverse attack on the former backing him to the fence. 546 Leonard spun 336 Fathead. 61 Danny C spun 98 Shandy, as did 336 Fathead to 141 Snakey, whilst 33 Gary Madgwick took the win.

Heat 4 was the first of the half car heats and raised 40 cars. There was massive congestion from the off on the caister bend which saw loads pile in. 441 LeGrice put away 691 Turner. 502 Selfy attacked 333 Scoles, as 244 Bucky Jnr spun 499 Emms. 414 Craig sent 179 Fat Pants over the marker tyres on the entrance to the pits bend head on into 499 Emms. 123 Ratboy spun 138 Batchelor. 98 Shandy spun 936 Hodgson. 141 Snakey attacked 647 Wingnut. 500 Kieran C set about 379 Iggle. 141 Snakey administered a big hit to 627 Brown at the end of the back straight. 28 Greeny jacked 934 Sampson who had tangled with 765 Sharman. 936 Hodgson collected 28 Greeny who was stranded near the pit gate only to cop a jacking from 141 Snakey. 98 Shandy took the win this time around.

Heat 5 was the second race of the 1/2 car split. 41 LeGrice treated the spun 873 Roberts to a head on. 13 Burcham gave 123 Woodley some attention. 336 Fathead gave 6 Ling a meaty head on. 760 Joey Reynolds made the long trip down worthwhile with a win; only 9 cars deemed to have gone the distance.

The Final raised an impressive 70 cars. 123 Ratboy attacked 315 Jarron for an early lead. 338 Garrod set about 839 Irons. A pile up formed at the end of the home straight. 11 Brown and 336 Fathead tangled. 13 Burcham jacked 11 Brown. 502 Selfy ran 764 Gray into 13 Burcham. The red flags came out due to a fire breaking out on 123 Ratboy’s Fiesta. The restart saw 61 Danny C set about 499 Emms.141 Snakey jacked 499 Emms. 760 Joey set about 338 Garrod. 9 Titch jacked 499 Emms.175 Emmo attacked 377 Ling. 760 Joey continued his charge as he spun 621 Gruff to take the lead. 760 Joey then turned 338 Garrod fencewards and got disqualified for doing so. 526 Cannell jacked 385 Thurlow, who then came under fire from 247 Bro. 621 Gareth Parker won ahead of 247 Lee Clarke and 9 Titch Mancini.

An outstanding 43 cars made it to the DD. 715 Evans was the first to show as he ran in running mate 367 Beevor. 222 Norton jacked 715 Evans. 244 Ducky Boi gave a large head on to 994 Billy P. 502 Selfy jacked 244 Ducky Boi. 14 Bazza set about 175 Emmo. 385 Thurlow jacked 14 Bazza. 702 Eagle ran 179 Fat Pants into 502 Selfy. 9 Titch attacked 366 Short. 179 Fat Pants attacked 995 Emmerson.170 Rusty stuffed in 717 Booty. 247 Bro tboned 379 Iggle as 170 Rusty gave a head on to 702 as Eagle as the red flags came out for an unknown reason. The DD resumed with 512 Ray attacking 247 Bro. 367 Beevor jacked 512 Ray. 500 Kieran C set about 367 Beevor. 165 Benny Boy attacked 500 Kieran C. 247 Bro delivered a head on to 500 Kieran C. 433 Smith tboned 367 Beevor to silence him. 433 Smith attacked 247 Bro before delivering a big jacking to the latter which more or less finished the Damage Inc man off. 433 Ben Smith taking the DD spoils to cap off a brilliant night’s entertainment from the Back To Basics.
