2L Bangers World Championship 2017 – 12/08/2017 – King’s Lynn

One of the biggest events on the Trackstar calendar, the 2 litre Bangers Shale World Final took place on Saturday 12th August 2017. On the car front, 95% were your typical 2 litre vehicles – the Ford Mondeo variants or Ford Cougars, but there were a few drivers that chose to differ from the norm. An outbreak of Vauxhalls saw 352 Ben Mynott with a used Vectra Estate, whilst 88 Lyndon Stark had a fresh saloon; 71 James Unwin and 370 Craig Gray bringing used ones. 312 Brad White brought a fresh Honda Accord and 888 Lloyd Stark had a booted Focus.

Several drivers made the effort on the paint front for the occasion. 88 Billy Page, 103 Jack Deacon, 209 Tom Waller, 210 Callum McKee, 248 Jamie Blything, 337 Ashley Garrod, 599 Matty Butcher and 830 Lee White with standout examples.

The Last Chance event raised 26 cars including a few names that you’d expect to qualify such as 103 Jacko, 370 Cobbold, English Champion 542 Oliver and last years podium man 599 Matty. 8 Little Tex turned 212 Little Mario into the tyres. 370 Cobbold gave a head on to the spinning 768 McSweeney. 312 White spun 548 Magpie, getting caught on the latter, leaving him prone to a jacking from Jackpot rival 340 Wes. 392 Baino weighed in on 340 Wes. 363 Keep dished a big oppo attack to 8 Little Tex, tearing the latter’s rear wheel off. 32 Bobbles delivered a massive head on to 210. 71 Twiggie weighed in on 210 McKee, as the red flags came out to assist 32 Bobbles. The race resumed with 352 Mynott spinning 299 Callaghan. 612 Loades delivered an oppo attack on 16 Coxy, before tangling with 888 Starky Jnr who was jacked in turn by 548 Magpie as the race was stopped again to recover a lose wheel from 612 Loades. The restart saw 363 Keep attack 370 Cobbold on oppo, as 768 McSweeney stopped 898 Battle in similar fashion. 392 Baino spun 103 Jacko. 412 Baby Jake spun 299 Tommy, with 16 Coxy homing in on 412 Baby Jake. 87 Damo delivered a rear wheel shot on 363 Keep, who was attempting to stop the leading 04 Mikey, who held on to book his place in the World Final. 542 Oliver and 389 Garrod completed the podium places, with the top 10 all going through to the main race. 340 Wes and 612 Loadsy booked their place with entertainer awards too.

The World Final started with a grand parade for the qualifying drivers before an Incarace draw denoted the grid. The draw placed Trackstar live wire 841 Carmen on pole alongside Gladiator 306 Bell. 2012 Champion 399 Atkin was on row 2, while early favourite 247 Bro was on row 4 and defending champion 82 Big T found himself towards the back of the pack.

Two warm up laps got the ball rolling, although English Champion 542 Oliver failed to make the start and the rain started to spit as the cars began to form the grid. 339 Jackpot followed in 843 Foster from the off which claimed 206 Turk and 181 Farmboy Jnr. 404 Spook jacked 181 Farmboy Jnr. 841 Carmen took a wild ride around the armco as he went to attack 399 Atkin for the lead. 328 Lathan caught the spun 88 #Allbag, as the leading 399 Atkin tboned lurking rival 340 Wes, whilst a pile up triggered on the road bend, which brought an early stoppage. 399 Atkin held on to his lead at this point, with most of the leading names already making their way into the top 10. The order at stoppage seeing 399 Atkin head the grid from 209 Tombo, 247 Bro, 326 Ratty, 549 Smiffy, 328 Lathan, 382 Chubby, 306 Bell, 88 FatFace and 178 Pretty Boy. The restart saw 549 Smiffy run 328 Lathan flat out into the marker tyre at the end of the home straight ending his charge, as front row sitter 306 Bell followed 519 Knuckles into 299 Tommy’s wreck. 248 Blything delivered a head on to 519 Knuckles. 72 Bondage ran 370 Cobbold into 248 Blything, whilst big movements were happening at the head of the grid, as 247 Bro bested 209 Tombo for the lead. 817 Stress jacked 370 Gray, who had a rough ride, going on to be spun by 178 Pretty Boy and jacked by 72 Bondage. 370 Cobbold spun 306 Bell and then attacked 209 Tombo, slowing his charge. 326 Ratty moved in to dish a hit to 209 Tombo to take second. The Team Jackpot and Grey and Black war saw them playing games on the centre, before 339 Jackpot stopped 382 Chubby on oppo. 367 Keep attacked 326 Ratty on oppo twice, as 247 Bro raced to his biggest title to date, taking the championship that alluded him for three years; 326 Ratty held on from the Gladiator attack for a solid second with 209 Tombo bouncing back from his spin for third. Gladiator pairing 367 Keep and 549 Smiffy were awarded the race entertainer awards, while 88 #Allbag and 209 Tombo were given merit awards for their smart paint.

The first Alcomers raised only 17 cars. A first lap melee down the home straight saw several fall foul including 548 Magpie who had a big impact with a market tyre.841 Carmen dispatched 185 Bonnett at the end of the home straight, with the latter being jacked by 178 Pretty Boy. 285 Dyer set about 363 Keep, with 768 McSweeney going in on 285 Dyer. 285 Dyer continued to jack 367 Keep, before 542 Oliver homed in on 185 Bonnett. 178 Pretty Boy attacked 185 Bonnett. 549 Smiffy held off a last bend assault from 841 Carmen to win with only 6 going the distance; 178 Pretty Boy deemed the entertainer this time round while 599 Matty was another recipient of a smart car award.

The second Alcomers raised a better 38 cars. 328 Lathan spun 82 Big T to set the ball rolling. 389 Garrod spun 87 Damo. 212 Little Mario set about 178 Pretty Boy and then went on to spin 768 McSweeney. 328 Lathan ran 382 Chubby into a tyre. 103 Jacko weighed in hard on 444 Chaz. 841 Carmen jacked 103 Jacko, as 549 Smiffy jacked 444 Chaz. 326 Ratty jacked 548 Magpie. 843 Foster went on oppo catching 8 Little Tex. 339 Jackpot dished a head on to 843 Foster. 549 Smiffy shared a meaty head on with 326 Ratty. 181 Farmboy Jnr tboned 326 Ratty. 339 Jackpot ran 247 Bro into 326 Ratty, who took further punishment receiving a tbone from 549 Smiffy. 178 Pretty Boy jacked 549 Smiffy. 399 Atkin raced to the win, dishing a solid hit to 326 Ratty on his way through; ahead of British Champion 830 Stretch and 599 Matty. 841 Carmen, 326 Ratty and 103 Jacko receiving entertainer awards, with 103 Jacko also receiving a smart car award alongside 830 Stretch and 248 Blything.

Alcomers 3 saw 23 cars make the track. 337 Pretty Boy dispatched 898 Battle early on. 599 Matty spun 399 Atkin who received a head on from 337 Pretty Boy. 830 Stretch spun 247 Bro. 599 spun 338 Wingnut, as 801 Mason tangled with 841 Carmen. 599 Matty set about 612 Bubbles. 247 Bro attacked 370 Gray, as 339 Jackpot delivered a big head on to 382 Chubby. 212 Little Mario jacked 370 Gray only to cop one in turn from 404 Spook. The race went straight into the DD, with 7 drivers joining off the infield. 87 Damo spun 830 Stretch, as 337 Pretty Boy delivered a huge jacking to 843 Foster. 382 Chubby treated 337 Pretty Boy to a head on. 404 Spook dished a head on to 206 Turk. 612 Loadsey jacked 337 Pretty Boy, who received a shot from 801 Mason. 340 Wes jacked 843 Foster. 599 Matty jacked 340 Wes. 247 Bro set about 87 Damo. 612 Loadsey attacked 339 Jackpot. 340 Wes went in on 843 Foster. 337 Pretty Boy jacked 843 Foster who was then on the receiving end of a tbone from 841 Carmen. 247 Bro set about 337 Pretty Boy. 363 Keep dished an oppo attack on 599 Matty, who copped another hit from 542 Oliver. 389 Garrod dished a head on to 404 Spook. 247 Bro homed in on 178 Pretty Boy. 363 Keep had a pop at 247 Bro, who retaliated with a hit of his own. 599 Matty went in on 247 Bro, who responded with a hit to the former. 337 Pretty Boy jacked 801 Mason. 247 Bro and 599 Matty shared a head on. 801 Mason jacked 389 Garrod. 337 Pretty Boy attacked 801 Mason. 542 Oliver tamely went in on 178 Pretty Boy. 247 Bro jacked 599 Matty. 178 Pretty Boy attacked 404 Spook. 247 Bro jacked 178 Pretty Boy. 548 Magpie attacked 404 Spook, before the Glads had a pop at 178 Pretty Boy. 247 Bro went in on 542 Oliver, as 548 Magpie went in on teammate 363 Keep. 178 Pretty Boy attacked 548 Magpie, leaving himself prone to a hit from 542 Oliver. 247 Bro blew up 599 Matty. 542 Oliver jacked 404 Spook. 178 Pretty Boy delivered a shot on 247 Bro. 542 Oliver gave a head on to 178 Pretty Boy. 247 Bro jacked 178 Pretty Boy. 542 Oliver assaulted 178 Pretty Boy. 247 Bro dished a front wheel shot to 542 Oliver, before silencing 548 Magpie and 542 Oliver with head ons to take the win rounding off a successful evening.
