Kings Lynn – 1/2/26 – Pre 96 National Bangers Under 1600 Icebreaker Teams – Meeting Report

The eagerly anticipated Pre 96 Under 1600 Icebreaker was finally upon us on Sunday 1st February 2026 after months of planning. Several teams and drivers that hadn’t appeared at an Icebreaker in numerous years, as well as an 8-strong Last Rites set up that had made the long trip across from Ireland to compete. As expected with the format, it was a case of Honda Civics, Nissan Almeras/Sunnys and Mk3 Vauxhall Astras that were the most common cars, but there was a sprinkling of top material. Bland brothers 580 Peter and 588 Anthony had a pair of Nissan 100NX’s whilst fellow Skunks driver 201 Morgan Burton had a Volvo 340. 257 Ben Waddingham impressed with a Nissan Sunny B11, with Export Crew duo 41 Lee Barnes and 441 Lee Horwood opting for Protons – a 1500 Saga and Wira respectfully. It was 98 Jake Wilson who had the car of the meeting, however, with a Mk2 Vauxhall Astra Estate.

T7B566 Tony Pallett and TEB323 Kieran Tweed set the first race of the day rolling. RD469 Martin Baxter ended up facing the wrong way, as T7B305 Alfie Cornish was dispatched fencewards by BC951 Jack Giddings. SA206 Mikey Mylett was flicked left by AM221 Jordan Storr, recovering only to be put under pressure by TB41 Tom Dye. T7B379 Brandon Kevern spun LRA63 Luke Dalton, as 951 Giddz weighed in on JW320 Daks Weir-Tebbs. BO72 Billy Bond bundled in AM223 Shane Batey Jnr under the scoreboard, as BC609 Levi Murkin had begun to open a respectable margin up front. MM428 Nick Ashbridge and JW321 John Weir crashed out to the infield under pressure from 951 Giddz. SA201 Morgan Burton tangled with BC644 Alfie Sime exiting turn 2, and was duly blasted by 72 Bondy. BC608 Lenny Murkin drove through LRA16 Michael Flaherty and took a shot in turn from LRA347 Jason Burke as he looked to flee the scene. MM312 Jake Burgess ran in to 201 Burton and was collected himself by 566 Zippy Jnr. 41 Beaver bounced Zippy off the armco but found himself stranded at the end of the back straight, with 951 Giddz obliging to drive through the former. The chicane on the back straight claimed several, with that man Giddz in the midst of the action once again alongside 16 Fagass, 72 Bondy and 63 Dalton. BC644 Alfie Sime put the bumper in on 347 Burke, and dealt a passing blow to the limping Fagass. RD419 Laura Quadling clipped the lame 951 Giddz, which claimed AM713 Oscar Preston and running-mate RD420 Matthew Jode. Fagass continued to take abuse as he limped around, whilst 420 Fuggers set about T7B305 Alfie Cornish. 644 Sime weighed in on 16 Fagass. 609 Levi Murkin raced to the win, with the top 5 scoring points.

It was a Scrapyard Screamers lock out of row 1 with SS95 Dylan Gamble and SS188 Jacob Anslow setting them off. Several piled in under the scoreboard bend, with SB46 Sean Green weighing on L477 Jack Speirs. TMTB160 Jamie Warr jacked MHA611 Joe Geeves, as SB580 Peter Bland drove through P79 Ricky Twell. SB68 Kyle Gill piled in on 160 Warr, with BTAF363 Billy Jarvis going on 611 Geeves. The red flags came out for L98 Jake Wilson, whose harnesses had come loose. The restart saw KR171 Nay Brooks spin P479 Joel Allen. SS50 Aiden Gamble drove through BL157 Max Stott who had been sat since before the restart. BTAF678 Alex Ward followed in 188 Anslow, as P519 Lee Middleton attacked BL113 Dan Wright. TMTB94 Jack Anscombe jacked Anslow. BTAF06 Tommy Rawsthorne held 50 Gamble on his breaks for a couple of laps before the Scrapyard Screamers driver managed to spin him with an assist from MHA399 Jonny Atkin. BL385 Roy Gedge wound back the clock to take the win and celebrated by rattling 79 Twelly around the plating on turn 1. TWTB59 Tom Greenstreet spun 95 Monkey Boy. 94 Anscombe done Monkey Boy over the front wheel setting the latter up for a shot from 678 Wardy to conclude the action.

Heat 3 saw TS88 Lyndon Stark and T7A145 Billy Gladden set them running, with TS886 Lewis Stark keen to get going. The typical turn 3/4 push left ECA441 Lee Horwood facing the wrong way, as many went in all directions along the home straight. TS887 Liam Stark got bounced along the home straight, before MHB247 Jon Bailey weighed in on LRB151 Gavin Mulvey. The red flags came out for Mulvey as LRB435 Paul Mullen put a hit on MHB39 Ryan Knibbs. 88 Fatface lead them away from DB116 Nat Cohn and 886 Lewis, although the restart itself was awful with at least half a dozen drivers falling foul before the green flag including TMTA623 Ricky Hutton who was rattled in by his own teammate TMTA817 Toby Hodgkinson as the pair looked to avoid T7A730 Deane Mayes who was sat drivers’ door on at the end of the back straight. LRB17 Sean Flaherty jacked 247 Jonboi’s empty car in a strange move. The action picked up a notch as DB372 James Cable followed in WB260 Ricky Hodson hard under the scoreboard. 88 Fatface spun MHB27 Adam Pearce as 116 No Luck Nat raced away for the win.

The fourth heat was the first set of the second round for the teams. 566 Zippy Jnr once again managed to secure a front row start, and was joined by 519 Knuckles. Several were claimed by the green flag rush including 321 Weir, 713 Oskie and 385 Royboy. MM961 Harry Brooks attacked the spun 46 Green. RB418 Steven Jode went in over the rear wheel of 160 Warr, before 390 Gibbo buried 608 Lenny Boy. 519 Knuckles weighed in on 961 Brooks. More piled in on turns 3 and 4, with 418 Jode jacking 323 Tweedy. 63 Dalton had a pop at 577 Fonzo but scuppered himself more in doing so. BB609 Nathan Tomlinson was one of those stuck in the pile up and was duly jacked by 519 Knuckles, with 469 Baxter going in as soon as the Predators man fled the scene. Knuckles didn’t get far before finding the fence himself, with 644 Sime obliging to home in down on the roadside bend. 609 Levi put away 418 Jode, with 608 Lenny Boy going in for a front wheel shot to the latter to add to his woes. 577 Fonzo bounced 63 Dalton around the plating, setting the Last Rites driver up for a shot from 68 Rocketdog. 609 Levi then jacked Rocketdog in turn. 390 Gibbo spun 347 Burke. 566 Zippy Jnr raced to the win, as 428 Fastbridge dumped 419 Mossop into the pile up. 611 Geeves ended up stranded on turn 2, and was leathered by 609 Levi, with 951 Giddz delivering a solid head on to the Mad Hatter before the reds came out.

T7B248 Jamie Blything and Kings Lynn favourite DB51 James Licquorice headed them off for Heat 5. The first major bit of action came as KR269 Tom Morris buried MHB217 Jason Clow, with TMTA720 Kenny-Joe Gabriel going in on the latter. 887 Stark dumped KR190 Ben Germany into the marker tyres on the entrance to turn 3, and he was collected 39 Chunkz and 116 No Luck Nat. ECA41 Lee Barnes was spun down the home straight and had 17 Wide Awake ran head on in to him by 51 Licquorice. 678 Wardy piled into Licquorice before the race was stopped. 188 Victor lead them away from 678 Wardy and 248 Blything. 252 Fatboy Slim ran in 27 Pitbull, whilst 720 Keno spun 372 Cable and was treated to the same by 247 Jonboi. ECA556 Lincoln Douglas weighed in on Fatboy Slim and copped once himself from SBB257 Ben Waddingham. 623 Tricky put away 372 Cable on the road bend and was jacked by 95 Monkey Boy. 247 Jonboi homed in on the Scrapyard Screamer, and was done in turn by 257 Benji. 556 Little Linc got his revenge on Benji and had SBB828 Jordan Sharpe in his rear door soon after. 06 Tommy piled into 41 Looney Lee’s empty Proton to pave a way through. He then came under fire from SBB829 Jay Sharpe and 12 Troy. Sharpe continued on the attack putting the roof up on 27 Pitbull’s Almera. 116 No Luck Nat got dumped to the infield on the back straight, as 50 Gamble gave 06 Rawsthorne more attention.

Last Rites B, Mad Hatters B & Rust + Dust – 150

Beacon Clampits & K+R Autos – 6

Dover Boys had clearly set their intentions with 51 Licquorice on pole for the Final, with 305 Cornish alongside. With a bumper field of 73 cars, it was carnage from the off as expected as cars were dispatched in all directions along the home straight. 248 Blything was among those to have a rough time, whilst 59 Dob had 828 Sharpey ran through his door. 72 Bondy ran in 190 Jezza. The red flags came out with the front row not even completing a lap. This depleted the field massively, leaving many with wrecked cars. 51 Licquorice lead them off from 275 the Mole and 888 Starky. 12 Troy buried 17 Wide Awake which also saw 577 Fonzo go in hard. 50 Gamble weighed in for a heavy jacking to the former Trackstar World Champion. 390 Gibbo and 608 Lenny Boy piled in behind. 347 Burke tangled with 221 Storr whilst the Levellers set about 06 Tommy on turn 2. 608 Lenny Boy spun 188 Anslow fence-wards whilst his running mate 951 Giddz was being set about by a combination of MHA392 Sam Baines and 390 Gibbo. 79 Twelly ran 644 Sime into Baino as 479 Jooble joined in the action on oppo. P96 Liam Brinton stopped second placed 275 the Mole head on and took one himself from 644 Sime. 678 Wardy attacked the limping 50 Gamble, who opted to continue on oppo to drive into 817 Screwloose. 51 Licquorice dumped in a pack with 390 Gibbo at the front of the quartet. Drivers steamed in to the turn 2 pile up from both bends as the pace had rapidly slowed as the level of destruction had really taken its toll. Team Starky duo 888 Starky and 88 Fatface found themselves at the front without little trouble, whilst 390 Gibbo, 644 Sime and 678 Wardy continued to be at the forefront of the action. 888 Starky was buried into the graveyard of cars under the scoreboard by 385 Royboy whilst 678 Wardy put 88 Fatface under pressure, resulting in the latter being buried into the back of 151 Mulvey. 888 Starky got going again still in the lead, whilst his brother was treated to a head on by 94 Anscombe which appeared to see both expire. This looked to leave 888 Starky clear to take the win, with only the last bend to contest with, but 678 Wardy reeled him in where it mattered and took his opportunity, running the former in. 94 Anscombe got going again and drove through Starky which sealed his fate. Job was not done, however, with 678 Wardy needing to unlap himself and make his way through the chicane of chaos exiting turn 2. He emerged from the smoke on the back straight to a cheer from the crowd as he entered the last bend. Wardy punched the air as he headed to the chequered flag, celebrating with a head on to 79 Twelly and then driving through 288 Fatboi before the reds came out, going down as the only finisher.
BTAF678, NoF

Into the DD we went, with 379 Iggle going in on STB887 Scott Lake. Final winner 678 Wardy attacked 428 Fastbridge. 68 Rocketdog ran 420 Fuggers into 151 Mulvey as down on the road bend, 469 Baxter laid in to 46 Green. 961 Brooks gave a head on to Green, with 887 Lake joining in on the action. 379 Iggle delivered a front wheel shot to 887 Lake, and then went down the other end to deliver a solid jacking to 428 Fastbridge. The action continued with slower hits gradually becoming the thing. 68 Rocketdog outlasting them all to take the honours.

678 Wardy’s win in the Final was enough to secure the team honours for BTAF, with Dover Boys and Team Black securing the podium spots, whilst Beacon Clampits efforts in the last race of the day saw them take the entertainers standings from Last Rites A and the Scrapyard Screamers.

It was a superb afternoon, the meeting Final the icing on the cake going down to last car with 678 Alex Ward’s superb performance. Fingers crossed there is a repeat in 2027.
