Unlimited War of the Worlds – Meeting Preview

The rejuvenation of the Unlimited Bangers War of the Worlds event was a very wise decision by the Trackstar team, with a solid summer team session being a top attraction for drivers and fans alike. This year is looking to be another top session with some of the sport’s leading names booked in for contention.

The Gladiators ended the Team Black chokehold on the titles last year, and stand a strong chance of retaining that again this year based on the form of 589 Simon Smith so far this year. ‘Gonna’ is dominating the Trackstar National Points and will surely be looking to maintain that this evening. 214 Connor Osborn has been a race winner here this year, but you’d expect him and remaining team members 349 Lewis ‘Noddy’ Price and 107 Taylor Pratchett to be more about the crashing.

The Silver Boys will be strong favourites for the honours, with three teams set for action. They have dominated the Unlimited scene here at Kings Lynn, which was evident at the Icebreaker earlier in the year where their A and C team took first and third, separated by the aforementioned Gladiators. 459 Blake Platts lifted the 25 & Under GB Championship from teammate 374 Sam Markham in October, as well as taking a third place in the King of Fens title. 455 Ricki Finney was runner-up in the Unlimited World of Shale, whilst 299 Tommy Callaghan has been among those at the top of the shale scene for the past couple of seasons. Adding to those are a solid crop of entertainers in the form of the Tingle brothers 182 Reece and 281 Lewis, 99 Shaydy Gough and TMT guest 623 Ricky Hutton, who will all provide valuable to taking out any other competition when the points battle heats up.

Team Extreme boast a strong line up with 362 Johnny James assembling some of the sport’s best for the occasion. Drifer is regularly quick, typically opting for a Toyota Supra and he is joined by World Champion 388 Stevo McGrath, World Cup winner 327 Mick Maskell Jnr and 181 Grant Doe – the quartet with the experience and talent to mount a serious challenge for the titles.

Another team that looks strong is TWT. Young starlets 62 Harvey Webb and 670 Max Eaton should never be overlooked – a pair of top talents that will be at the forefront of the banger scene for years to come, and they are joined by 625 Josh Gooch and 130 Joe Gladden that have the talent and experience to really add and help the team mount a challenge for the honours.

Matt’s Mafia will be underdogs going in to proceedings based on the fact they are a team assembled together, but 199 Kris Clifford and 823 Jamie Murrell have both been race winners here this season, the latter taking the final win last time out, and so could string together some strong results.

There was no driver that won more races than 673 Darren Fendley at the Adrian Flux Arena last year, and he’ll be looking to revisit that form tonight as he leads Team Bash into battle. He is joined by 155 Sam Coote, the winner of the White & Yellows Championship earlier in the year and livewire 51 James Licquorice. Licquorice can certainly pedal a motor when he wants to, and demonstrated that by winning the White Top heat last time out in a full contact display, and the trio could well be there when it matters come the end of the evening.

The Predators are another strong looking trio, fronted by 178 ‘Slim’ Kieran Bowman. He is joined by regular Pred man 595 Drew Burdett, whilst World of Shale Champion 828 Jordan Sharpe makes his second guest appearance for the team this year. There’s no questioning the talent the three possess, but their eyes could be firmly set on the entertainers league instead, where they could firmly be a threat also.

Damage Inc are a late addition with 247 ‘Bro’ Lee Clarke and 350 Liam Webster representing the orange and black. Bro will be hoping for a quieter meeting tonight, being sandwiched in between the extremely lively Skegness meeting in the middle of June and the upcoming Emmen teams where he will be part of a strong 3 Litre line up. Webster clashed with the Predators last time out so it will be interesting to see whether anything progresses there.

There is certainly talent across the board with the likes of Team Mates and Demons also among the ranks, it’s certainly going to be a cracker!
