Kings Lynn – 30/3/24 – Unlimited Bangers East Anglian Championship – Meeting Preview

The meetings come thick and fast now the Trackstar season is in full swing and we bring the first of two fixtures to you this weekend here at the Adrian Flux Arena with the Unlimited Bangers headlining tonight for their annual East Anglian Championship sponsored by Porterhouse Building & Fire Solutions.

209 Tom Waller won that title last year and will be hopeful of retaining it given the run of form he is on currently. Tom was a heat winner here at the Unlimited Icebreaker, which helped guide his Team Waller B to a third in the overall standings but has had many trips on control cars over the last few months including wins at Yarmouth and Ipswich, the latter seeing him take two wins on the night as well as the Banger World Series Wildcard win, and he was second place in the A1 Open at Standlake – all of those coming in the Unlimited discipline. Should he be Mercedes or Scorpio powered, don’t bet against him.

The Silver Boys have been the team to beat around the Norfolk shaleway. 459 Blake Platts has had countless wins around here and remains one of the star names to look out for. 455 Ricki Finney has struggled for form on the loose stuff since his World of Shale victory, and will be hoping for a change of fortune tonight and should luck be on his side, will be hard pushed to be beaten. 673 Darren Fendley has won more races here at Kings Lynn than any other driver on the booking list other the past few seasons and will be looking to secure another title victory. 790 Nathan Young has welcomed a run of form since October. He was a podium finisher in both the King of the Fens and Nutcracker titles to round off 2023, leaving him sitting at the top of the World of Shale qualifying charts. ‘Nafe’ will be looking for more of the same again this evening. You can never rule out Predators man 178 Kieran Bowman. He faultlessly guided his Mercedes to victory in the 25 & Under Champ of GB back in October adding that title to the Trackstar World Championship crown he secured in July. ‘Slim’ was runner-up in the recent Supreme Championship at Mildenhall and will be hoping to be among the places again tonight. The conditions for both the King of the Fens and Nutcracker titles were appalling, and whilst we pray to the weather gods for a dry bank holiday, the likes of 222 Matty High and veteran racer 348 Sonny Sherwood will be hoping for a wet spell. 639 Tye Williams was in attendance at our pre-season practice day in the Mk4 Toyota Supra that he raced at the Supreme Championship, and was equally as fast here as he was at Mildenhall and will be looking to display that pace on a welcomed visit here this evening. The likes of 123 Kieran Gray, 830 Lee White, 299 Tommy Callaghan, 328 Ben Nicholls and 362 Johnny James should not be overlooked.

The Unlimited Bangers will also be contesting their annual White and Yellows Championship. 155 Sam Coote will be looking to defend his title, but will have to do so off the back row of the grid. 9 Ben Cox and the aforementioned Nafe will be looking to work their way forwards from the back of the grid too, but expect there to be some fast-chargers towards the front of the field. 51 James Licquorice, 374 Sam Markham, 662 Dalton Smith and 271 Ashlun Woods all have a race victory under their sleeves and will be wanting a shot of glory.

James Licquorice is a name you can always trust to put a show on, and you can expect the same again this evening. He was one of the standout performers in the 2 Litre Bangers here last week. It is 2023 Trackstar Entertainers Champion 214 Connor Osborne that heads the ranks in the World of Shale Entertainers Points and the Gladiators driver is always good value for money and will be one to get the action going. 100 Callum White sits just behind him in the standings and is another regular entertainer here at the Adrian Flux Arena. The likes of 555 Harry Gelsthorp, 335 Lee White, 84 Will Cole, 791 Nicky Young and 23 Sonny Parsons will look to keep the front bumpers flying in. 105 Harm Ludolphie makes the journey over from The Netherlands to join us once again. He was present for the end of year Micro Teams event with The Rednecks, who were in great form, but it was Harm that stood out the most winning the fan voted entertainer of the meeting.

The front bumpers will certainly be flying in throughout the night courtesy of the 2L Saloon Stock Cars. Some of the sports’ best are booked in for action with World Champion 730 Deane Mayes looking to continue his 100% attendance record here at Kings Lynn; whether that be in a Banger or Stock Car, it’s always great to have him here. He is joined by National Points Champion 349 Michael Allard, Irish Points Champion 747 Matthew Stirling, World of Shale Championship 120 Luke Dorling and a full host of other star names. The one they’ll all be looking to beat however is yellow top 474 Michael Kent. Michael has been a great addition to the formula and romped to a hattrick last time the Saloons were here at the Adrian Flux Arena. They were certainly in top form at that March 16th meeting showcasing themselves at the very best. 370 Rowan Venni raced to the win in the white & yellow heat prior to Kent’s dominance, but there was also strong results for 341 Austen Freestone and 350 Thomas Parrin who were due some good places. The star power came up trumps in the final, with European Champion 131 Timmy Barnes in second ahead of 760 Joey Reynolds and 26 Tommy Barnes. Ex-Banger World Champion 59 Steven Bolton will be a welcome visitor from across the water. He enjoyed a heat win and a final podium spot at Cowdenbeath, where 151 Levi List also enjoyed some strong results including the White & Yellow top heat whilst 161 Billy Smith made the journey over to Emmen for their season opener where he featured strongly in the positions also. Although race winners may not be guaranteed, one thing for sure is that action can be.

The Classic Cars R Us Junior Bangers have been a delight to watch so far this season. It’s difficult some times to remember that it is kids out there that you are watching as the talent showcased by them is top drawer. It is the White & Yellow Championship for them which sees 669 William Cartwright and 329 Jayden Carter form the front row and the both couldn’t have hit form at a better time. Both were heat winners last week, whilst Jayden followed that with a third in the final and they will be hoping to keep that momentum going. 478 Morgan Bailey just celebrated his 13th birthday, and will be looking to be the latest member of his family to grab some silverware and add a title to his name. He was another with good results last Saturday. 920 Rhys Medley and 08 Taylor Morten have been great additions to the formula this season, and although they don’t qualify for the title race, expect them to feature among the positions in the other races on the night. Rhys added another win to his belt last week taking the final win ahead of Taylor and you’d expect to see both climbing the grades before long. 339 Jack Garrod Jnr shows strong promise as a star of the future also. He took a heat win last week from the blue grade and will be fighting his way to the front, whilst the elder generation of the formula such as Trackstar Points Champion 750 Rhys Parrin, 455 Lexi Finney and 556 Lincoln Douglas will be looking to battle their way towards the front of the grid.

An exciting looking meeting with some of the best in the sport set to feature to start your bank holiday off in the right manner.
